Our first production!
Directed by Homer Tracy in June of 1998.
With book and lyrics by Bill Russell and music by Janet Hood.
Elegies for Angels, Punks, and Raging Queens was an extraordinary tour-de-force for 27 actors plus singers and accompanists ( our largest cast to date).
Inspired by the AIDS Memorial Quilt Project and based on real-life stories, it presents a cross-section of American society affected in some way by the AIDS crisis. A series of monologues, punctuated by song, builds to an unforgettable, emotional climax, making Elegies for Angels, Punks, and Raging Queens a must-see night of theatre.
Originally performed in New York in 1990. It played three sell-out seasons in London's West End and made its Australian premiere during the 1996 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. ActOut's premiere of Elegies was presented during Lexington's Pride Week in June of 1998 and an encore performance in December of that same year.
