First presented in 1968 and then revived with acclaim on Broadway in 2018, The Boys in the Band is an iconic piece of LGBTQ+ theater that speaks to both gay and gay-friendly audiences and creates a present-day cultural awareness of the LGBTQ+ community by addressing the present through the past.
The play, whose themes remain relevant 50 years after its first staging, explores the lives of nine men who gather for a birthday party in the spring of 1968 in New York. The characters confront issues of self-loathing, homophobia and bigotry that were prevalent among LGBTQ+ people in the day — and are very much alive in 2019.
The Boys in the Band premiered off-Broadway in 1968. Its 2018 Broadway revival, featuring a star-studded cast, was named Best Revival of a Play at the 2019 Tony Awards. That production is being adapted into a film for Netflix, scheduled to debut in 2020. The Boys in the Band is the latest of more than 20 plays by ActOut, including Love! Valour! Compassion! (2001), The Laramie Project (2002), Sordid Lives (2003), Southern Baptist Sissies (2005), Corpus Christi (2006), Lot's Daughters (2007), Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays (2016) and Birds of a Feather (2017).
Audience Advisory: THIS PLAY CONTAINS LANGUAGE THAT SOME MAY FIND OFFENSIVE.

Kyle is proud to return to ActOut! after having played Roy in their last show, "Birds of a Feather". He has performed with several local theaters and independent productions and always appreciates your support of the performing arts.
Buckle up and enjoy the show!
Garret performed in five shows while attending college; four at their alma mater, Transylvania University, as Bob in Lloyd’s Prayer, Cliton in The Liar, Jimmy in Almost, Maine, and Shylock in Rough Magic. They even helped lead the campus improvisational troupe, Impromp TU, but had taken a break from acting until now—five years later. Today, they can be found singing their little heart out at karaokes around the city, throwing their hair to live music, and sipping wine on beautiful patios.
Joseph is thrilled to be a part of this marvelous production. This marks his return to the theatre stage after a 7-year hiatus. Previous shows include Hairspray (Edna), Little Shop of Horrors (Seymour), La Cage aux Folles (Albin), You’re a good man Charlie Brown (CB), among many others. Over the past decade, he has become known best in Kentucky/Tennessee as #SofawndaPeters-Cumming. #Sofawnda (@hashtagsilent on IG) has performed all over the country, including the Half-Woman Show at Club Cumming in NYC. She is also the current reigning Miss Firecracker 2019. “He may have left the theatre, but the theatre never left her” Joseph would like to dedicate these performances to Ned Frazier, Kathryn Dickey, and Louann Noel.
